Personalised Cryptography for Home Computers - How It Works.
News Group: comp.lang.ada

Any person who has down loaded the 'Crypto-APPS Cipher_1' software can encrypt any file in their computer just by re-opening the file in a text editor like 'Note Pad' or 'Note Tab Pro' and then saving it with a .txt file extension. They can do the same thing in a word processor like say 'Word Pad' or 'MS Office Word' but they must then take care to select .txt (instead of the default .doc) as the chosen file extension for saving. The .txt file extension is automatic by default in an editor.

For convenience it is better to save the .txt file into the main program folder (Crypto-App Cipher_1) for easy calling later for encryption and decryption.

File types that may be encrypted:

*All programming language source code files compiled or interpreter driven - (incomplete office programming work can be saved overnight for instance) in the same editor in which it is being written. Compiled languages and interpreter languages are typical.

*Website design source code files of XML and html.

*Document mark-up language files such as TeX and LaTeX files.

*Ordinary files of plaintext.

(Music and pictures can be encrypted with special attention given to dedicated file preparations but for now I am interested more in achieving simplicity of operation of home and out-of-office first-time usage by readers).

Readers should try out these possibilities and pass on their experiences. My own experience has been very satisfactory.

Files are retrieved later when required just by decrypting them and restoring the file to where it normally belongs.
