InterBase 2007 and 2009 disconnects
News Group: embarcadero.public.interbase.general

My customers (financial institutions) are having InterBase disconnects at random times throughout the day. They all run the service on a Windows 2008 R2 server. The error from the InterBase log is

PROTOCOL/xdr_protocol: opcode 1094795585 has no context, client host = UNKNOWN connection name = compName user name = UNKNOWN

When it happens our software hangs. This started December 9th at one location and now has affected 7 different locations across the country. I thought it was a Windows update but one location has not installed updates since early November. We have not changed anything with our software so I am not sure where to go from here.

Thanks,
Dennis

Hello everybody,
Happy new year!
I received the exact same message and the server Interbase 2009 stop and restart just after. I ti s no a Windows 2008 R2.
Here is what is in the log.

SERVEURPR (Server)	Sun Jan 04 12:35:25 2015
PROTOCOL/xdr_protocol: opcode 1094795585 has no context, client host = UNKNOWN connection name = ServerName user name = UNKNOWN

SERVEURPR (Client)	Sun Jan 04 12:35:25 2015
	C:\CodeGear\InterBase\bin\ibserver.exe: terminated abnormally (-1)

It affect my others databases as some work is done and I endup with corrupted databases.
I wonder if you were able to find anything to correct that.
Thanks

Since InterBase server also has an open TCP port listening for incoming packets, it would get unexpected packets from such apps and report the error as below.

Dennis,

The error message indicates that the InterBase server has received unexpected packets from a client application.
- Have you deployed any new applications connecting to the database server?
- Are these InterBase applications connecting via the InterBase client library?
- Are any of these applications using JDBC or other drivers to communicate with the InterBase server?

There is also a remote possibility that some network scanning (or worse spamware) application is attacking all open TCP ports on the system(s). Since InterBase server also has an open TCP port listening for incoming packets, it would get unexpected packets from such apps and report the error as below.
- Do the installations have proper Firewall setup to eliminate external or internal attacks (from rogue applications)?

Best wishes,
Sriram
