BDE error 2501 or 210D on Windows 7
News Group: embarcadero.public.bde.general

Hello,

I have some old softwares working with BDE.
On Windows 7, the 1st software (A) using BDE start correctly all the time.
The second one (B) is started from A and is using BDE on same database.
Sometimes, but not always, software B makes a BDE error 2501 or 210D.
I need to restart computer, sometimes a few times, before it working
without error. The next computer start could leave to this error again.
Or it can takes a few starts...

- Changing SharedMemLocation does not have better effect
- Changing SharedMemSize neither.
- I tried a lot of different configurations, changing also Memsize,
MaxFileHandles... nothing really helps.
Sometime I can have 7, 8 Windows starts and everything works, sometimes,
with same configuration, it does not works, and I need 2, 3 or more
starts for that to work again...

Tests were made on Windows 7 32bits, as well as 64bits,
with adminitrator rights or without, UAC enabled or disabled.
This error comes back randomly.

On Windows XP, there is no problem.

The BDE is installed corretly for Windows 7, with a NetDir in a folder
with full permissions (c:\BDE), with BDE config in a folder with full
permissions, Local Share is true.

I also tried the BDE installer from there
http://www.all2ezy.com/html/developer_downloads.html

Same things.

If somebody knows how to get rid of this problem...

Regards,

M.E.L.

Thanks for the advice.
This error is happening time to time to almost every custummers having
Windows 7.
I will try exclude this directory from scanning, and see if this erro
still comes or not...

Thanks,

Mel

If you are using a Paradox Database (or similar) then you should also
exclude the folder that contains those files on both the workstation and
**also** for the file server antivirus program as well (if the database is
on a network).

Yes I still have this problem as soon as I start a 2nd exe using the
BDE. (it happens not all the times, but again and again...)
The first exe always runs without problem.

I have try your demo BDE_Memory: it does not seems to work:
starting a 2nd exe using bde triggered same bde error after starting
your tool.

I looking for a solution that:

1) I could make sure that is working. Your demo does not seem to works.

2) I could implement in my own exe or at least in an exe that could be
started on system boot (autostart in windows).
A tool separate tool that need to be started manually when error occurs
would not be usefull.

On the other hands, we are in the process to remove the BDE from our
softwares, but a *working* solution for the bde would be usefull until
that is completed.

Hello MEL,

I've just work recently with windows 7, for almost two month now the system gives randomly that error. Sometimes it works and sometimes it dont works, just crasy.
We have an Anti virus program of Sophos and there is the problem, on the on-acces scanning there is a list of exclusions. I've just add the \\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Borland Shared\ to this list and now we don't get any error 2501 anymore.

So my advise is to look into the anti-virus program that you use. It only seems to happen under Windows 7 and not under Windows XP with the same anti-virus program.

Hi M.E.L.,

If your problem still exists, look at:

BDE-Setting x64 v.3.15
